The Ultimo Prize 2021 aims to find the best young writers of fiction and poetry in Australia. The prize is open to writers between the age of 18 and 30 writing short fiction or poetry. The 2021 prize is seeking writing that explores a specific theme – IDENTITY. We encourage all entrants to think about what the theme of identity means to them and explore it in their work. Thirty winners will be chosen and published in an anthology collection by Ultimo Press in November 2021. Each winning entry will receive $200 and a copy of the published book on publication.

Who can enter?
The Ultimo Prize is free and open to all Australian residents of Australia between the ages of 18 and 30, including previously published writers. Entrants can be no older than 30 by 31 December 2021.
We particularly encourage people from diverse backgrounds to apply for this prize. Ultimo Press and Hardie Grant Books are committed to bringing exciting stories to the world. Fiction entries must be between 1000 and 2500 words
