With the world so often dark and incomprehensible, fiction has never played a more important role in our culture and society in making sense of the human condition and imagining a hopeful future. Speculative fiction and fantasy are especially well placed to comment on our present moment; why not, as China Miéville says, ‘use fantasy to challenge social and aesthetic lies’?
It is this kind of writing KYD are seeking to uncover in KYD’s first Speculative Fiction/Fantasy showcase. In May 2019, they will publish a selection of short stories that explores the genre in all its varieties; work that both challenges our preconceptions of the genre, and entertains.
Submissions for the KYD Speculative Fiction/Fantasy Showcase are now open, and will close at midnight AEDT, Friday 25 January 2019. All contributors are paid. For more information on how to submit, please visit KYD’s Submittable page.
