This workshop provides an in-depth look into the social media landscape, tracing the evolution of bookish conversation from FanFiction and NaNoWriMo to Goodreads, BookTok and beyond. You’ll learn hard and fast numbers and facts, examine the nature of social media and its exceptions and rules, considering those who’ve been successful with and without social media and where you, and your work, sits in relation to this.

  • The current social media landscape for writers and readers – hard and fast numbers & facts
  • The 80/20 rule and why it exists
  • Exceptions and rules – those who’ve been successful without social media, and why that’s probably not going to be you
  • Online communities for writers

About the Tutor:

Danielle Binks is an author and literary agent with Jacinta di Mase Management. She edited and contributed to the young adult book Begin, End, Begin: A #LoveOzYA Anthology. Her debut middle grade novel was the bestselling The Year the Maps Changed, and her award-winning YA novel is The Monster of Her Age. Danielle now also teaches creative writing in the Professional Writing and Editing course at RMIT University.
