Everyone has a story. How do we as writers gain trust to tell another person’s story? How do we honour the interviewee’s voice and balance it with our own? How do we find the narrative within the conversation? In this session, learn which characteristics of an interviewee to focus on, gain tips on interview research and practice your interview skills.Details

You Will Learn:
- the principles of cognitive interviewing
- which characteristics of the interviewee to focus on to properly honour their voice and narrative.
- how to ask questions which honour the interviewee’s previous answers.
- tips on researching for interviews.
- tips on dealing with unexpected turns within an interview.
About the Tutor:
Nicole Smith is a writer, wheelchair user, coffee addict, AFL footy fan and improviser. She works as a Digital Communications Officer. She has a blog where she interviews social entrepreneurs: www.blankpagesandemptyspaces.com. She has a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and a Graduate Diploma of English from La Trobe University. Nicole won a Writeability Fellowship from Writers Victoria. She is currently a Storming the City mentor with Writers Victoria.
