IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING THE NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)
Writers Victoria is closely monitoring the unfolding coronavirus situation, with the health and safety of our writers, members, event and workshop attendees, and staff being our first priority. Based on the current advice of health and government authorities we’re not cancelling any scheduled events or workshops, but have contingencies in place should cancellations be required.
We urge everyone to follow advice from health authorities and if you are experiencing symptoms of cold, flu and fever, please refrain from attending our events or workshops (particularly if you have recently travelled overseas), and encourage those who may be at risk (including immuno-compromised people and those susceptible to respiratory illness) to make attendance decisions with their health in mind. We are also increasing the availability of hand sanitiser and tissues in all public spaces and venues where our events are held.
At this stage, the advice of the Commonwealth’s Chief Medical Officer is that there is no material risk associated with attending a public gathering. If and when the official advice changes, we will work closely with health authorities to respond to their advice.
We have suspended our cancellation policy, which required 5 days’ notice for booking cancellations, for the duration of the pandemic. If you feel unwell leading up to or on the day of your booked event or workshop, Writers Victoria will cancel your attendance and provide a full credit for you to rebook to a replacement event or workshop of your choice in the future.
If you find yourself required to undergo quarantine, you can turn crisis into opportunity by taking this time to work on your writing. Writers Victoria has a range of free writing exercises available on our website. Visit: Writing Workouts and Writing Tips & Tools. You can also book in a manuscript assessment or mentoring session, which can take place online/via Skype.
