Write-ability goes regional

Writers Victoria’s Write-ability program has been built around the importance of self-told stories, disability leadership and peer support — creating opportunities for even the quietest voices to be heard.

Now in its third year, Write-ability has grown to include a regional focus with Geelong-based Harriet Gaffney as our first regional project officer.

Over the next year, Write-ability Goes Regional will provide professional development and targeted support for writers with disability in the Geelong area, offering facilitated writers groups, commission opportunities and access support. The program aims to increase our focus on the needs of regional writers and writers with disability in particular, demonstrating our commitment to access, equality and inclusion through the delivery of community-led initiatives.

Get involved Join us for our first Regional Write-ability Writers Group at the Belmont Library on 27th October 2015. Or visit us at Market Square Geelong during Social Inclusion Week on Friday 4th December.

This project builds on the success of Write-ability initiatives such as the Untold Stories of Pride Literary Salon at the Emerging Writers Festival in 2014 and the Write-ability Fellowships.

If you are a person with disability and are interested in writing and would like to learn more about the program please email Harriet. With thanks The Write-ability program is a partnership between Writers Victoria and Arts Access Victoria.

Write-ability Goes Regional is made possible by the generous support of Perpetual Trustees through the IMPACT Philanthropy Program. Write-ability is also supported by the City of Melbourne and the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation.
