Thanks to a donation from Pencilled In journal, Writers Victoria is offering commissioned pieces in The Victorian Writer, and bursaries to attend writing workshops in our Season 2 program for Asian Australian writers.

Pencilled In Bursaries for Asian Australian Writers

Three Asian Australian writers will receive bursaries to attend workshops or events in the Writers Victoria Winter School and Season 2 Program (to the value of $150 per person). Check out our full list of workshops, courses and events here.

To apply, send a statement (of no more than 300 words) about you, your writing and how you intend to use the bursary by 10am Friday 29 June.

Pencilled In Commissions for Asian Australian Writers

Two Asian Australian writers will receive paid commissions for new pieces of work to be published in The Victorian Writer magazine (to the value of $200 per person).

Submissions must align with one of our upcoming themes, which are:

  • October-November: Emerging writers special. Fiction, non-fiction from emerging writers.
  • December-January: Writing Each Other – own voices, writing beyond experience etc.

To apply, you can submit short stories, poems, creative non-fiction or non-fiction works up to 1,200 words. 150-word pitches will also be considered.

  • A 50-word bio.
  • A short statement about the piece.
  • Your piece/pitch.
