In Conversation with Mackenzi Lee

Spend the afternoon with award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Mackenzi Lee in her only Melbourne appearance. Mackenzi is a multi-award winning author of both YA and non-fiction books, and won audiences over world-wide with her trope-y romp A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue. The sequel, A Lady’s Guide to Petticoats and Piracy, has just been released cementing her place as one of the fresh voices in YA fiction. Read more.

 

Writing Historical Mystery

Writing fiction often begins with a single shining idea. Writing historical fiction is about setting that idea in a time and place that has existed and been recorded. The historical novelist’s art is that of weaving a new story into the old. This workshop will explore the techniques, tricks, ideas and pitfalls of bringing history into a narrative in a way that enhances rather than swamps. Read more.

 

Refine Your Novel
with Toni Jordan | 26 May
The end of the manuscript is in sight, although there’s still much work to be done. Character, plot, structure, pace and theme will need refining. An ending must be devised: one that works both tonally and in terms of story structure. How do you revise and redraft? How do you tighten and also enrich your first draft?
