It's tax time!

The end of financial year is nearly upon us. So in the lead-up to tax time, here’s a couple of different ways that you can save money while making a difference.

If you’ve earned any money from your writing this year, you can claim your Writers Victoria membership and course fees as a tax deduction for professional development expenses.

Renewing your membership also gives you another year of fantastic membership benefits, including 6 editions of The Victorian Writer magazine, discounts on all of our workshops and services and much more. You can even make further savings if you renew for two years instead of one.

Renew your WV membership by the end of June on our website.

Big or small, every donation helps us continue the work we do. Donations of $2 or more are tax deductible. Online donations are secure and issued with an instant tax receipt.

To claim your donation in this year’s tax return, donate any time up until midnight on 30 June.

You can make a contribution to Writers Victoria here.

‘Adopt’ a writer

If you want even more bang for your buck, you may be interested in becoming a Writers Victoria Personal Patron.

Writers’ groups, book clubs, organisations, giving circles and individuals are now able to ‘adopt a writer’ as part of our Personal Patrons scheme. For a one-off, tax-deductible donation of between $300 and $2,500, you could support an emerging writer to be mentored by a professional author or get access to a writing studio to work on their manuscript. The Personal Patrons scheme matches patrons directly with writers and allows them to track their progress.

On this website, you can read about what Lou Bortolin thought about being a patron and what his support meant for writer Emilie Collyer.
