Templeberg Residential Writing Fellowship

Established in 2013, the Templeberg Residential Writing Fellowship sends an Australia writer to Templeberg Villa in Galle in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka for two- to four-weeks to work on a writing project.

Canberra-based writer Lucy Nelson was awarded the 2014 Templeberg Residential Writing Fellowship. The Fellowship was judged by Christopher Shields and Brent Carey from Templeberg Villa, internationally acclaimed Sri Lankan-based author Royston Ellis, Melbourne-based writer Michelle Aung Thin and last year’s fellow Michelle Wright.

Award-winning Melbourne short story writer Michelle Wright was awarded the inaugural fellowship by Templeberg Villa in 2013. The Fellowship was judged by internationally Royston Ellis, renowned Australian journalist Keith Austin and Victorian writer Deborah Robertson.

The Fellowship includes flights, transfer costs, accommodation, full board and a daily stipend.

Templeberg Villa’s history dates back to 1864, when the property was established as an Old Dutch Colonial Merchant’s house on a five acre coconut plantation. Read more about Templeberg here.
