How do you keep going with your novel or narrative non-fiction work after the first flush of excitement has settled down? How do you find the narrative momentum and, crucially, the writerly momentum, to get to the end? In this masterclass we’ll discover tools and techniques to overcome narrative difficulties and internal blocks. Using exercises, discussion and carefully chosen examples, you’ll learn how to get to rethink your manuscript to bring new energy to it. Whether you’re working on your first or second draft, you’ll leave with new ideas about structure and momentum, and the tools to continue on to the glorious end.

You will learn:

  • The principles of classical narrative to help you understand what’s missing in your story (and how to get it)
  • Three ways of approaching narrative structure and momentum – and how to craft the perfect ending
  • How to ask the right questions designed to keep you writing (and re-writing) to the end
  • Crucial character questions and approaches to make sure your manuscript delivers on its promise
  • Techniques and strategies for overcoming blocks and pauses, and practical re-drafting techniques to use when you finally get to the end of the first draft.
