The Peter Carey Short Story Award returns for 2019, opening for entries on February 4 and closing at 6pm AEDT March 21. Organised by the Moorabool Shire Council, the award is for short stories between 2000 - 3000 words, and is open to all Australian residents. The winning entry receives $1000, while the runner-up wins $500. First and second prized stories will also be published in the Spring 2019 issue of Meanjin. Longlisted entries will be judged by Nic Low, author of the satirical short story collection Arms Race.
In 2019, one outstanding entry from a writer who lives, works, or studies in Moorabool Shire will be awarded the Moorabool Shire Libraries’ Best Local Entry Award. The winning story will receive $250 and have an extract of their story published in The Moorabool News.
